July 2022

I'm doing this month's blog a little early because I'm about to head to Boise to be there for the birth of Megan and Mitch's little boy - our first grandchild!!  I am so excited to spend time with them and welcome the sweet little guy - hopefully soon.  Megan's due date is July 29 and I know she is very ready to be done with pregnancy. :)

June is cherry month at our house and we had a bumper crop of delicious, worm free fruit this year so Bryce and I spent more time than I want to remember picking cherries, pitting cherries and preparing cherries to dry them, make them into jam and turn them into fruit leather.  All are delicious!! And to be completely fair, Bryce did the fruit leather all on his own.

We celebrated the 4th of July with a yummy BBQ with Seth and Delaney and then we drove to Alpine and perched our lawn chairs on the bench and watched fireworks all across the valley - it was beautiful!

After 2 years of waiting (due to Covid supply chain issues and shortages and models being discontinued etc, etc, etc,) we finally got the hot tub we have been wanting (or one very similar to the one we were wanting anyway) and have been enjoying nearly daily soaks in our new toy.  It's also fun because the kids come home to use it sometimes. :)

Autumn has been enjoying her time in Winnipeg, Canada as a missionary.  Here are a few pictures of her adventures so far.  We look forward to video chatting with her each Monday and to getting her emails.  We miss her at home, but are so happy that she is serving as a missionary and learning so much!

Bryce and I took a weekend trip to Logan and had a great time visiting with Devin and Levi.  We took a hike on Saturday morning to Windy Caves and got to see some cool rock formations and amazing views of Logan canyon

After our hike, we drove through the canyon to Bear Lake where we spent the day sampling raspberry shakes from various places in Garden City to see who makes the best raspberry shake.  We ended up trying 4 different places - the Chevron station (one of Devin and Levi's friends said they have the best raspberry shakes there), LeBeau's, Zipz and Ephraim's.  Judging on a variety of factors, we determined that you basically can't get a bad raspberry shake in Garden City - they were all delicious! Though our favorite was probably Zipz. Or maybe Ephraim's. It was a really fun experiment, anyway.

We spent a little time at the lake and it was a gorgeous day - so fun!

We went to Devin and Levi's ward with them on Sunday and did our family Come, Follow me discussion from their apartment before Bryce and I headed back to Highland.  It was a really fun weekend!

Devin and Levi also did some more hiking in Logan canyon, and also kayaked the Provo river and did some other fun stuff with some friends.

Megan and Mitch stayed busy in Boise.  Megan finished her last week at work (she has decided that she won't go back to work for a while after baby is born and is going to focus on being a mom) and spent some time getting everything ready for baby to come and trying to not feel uncomfortable all of the time. Growing a baby is hard work. :)  Her siblings wanted to do a pool to guess when the baby will be born and Megan informed them that if any of them say August anything, they are on her bad list. :)

Delaney and Seth were able to get an apartment near the U of U in the married student housing there and were so happy to leave their problematic apartment in Provo behind.  Bryce and I spent a day helping them pack up and move their stuff from Provo to Salt Lake and to their new apartment. Delaney has been commuting from Provo to the U this past year and now Seth will commute to BYU from SLC, which isn't too hard because of free public transit and the fact that the train has wifi so Seth can do homework during his commute.  They are happy about the move.  Here is a picture of them with their cat, Blaze, leaving their Provo apartment.  I should have gotten a pic of them in their new place, but failed to do so.

Bryce went on a 3 day campout with the YSAs to the Flaming Gorge area.  They had the BEST time and I was sad to have missed it.  They went to the Vernal temple on the way to Flaming Gorge and then also spent a day rafting down the river.  We both love our time with the YSAs - we have an amazing group in our ward!!

We also went to see "Cinderella" at the outdoor theater at Sundance with a group of YSAs and had fun enjoying the play with the Bishop and his family from the bench seats while the YSAs watched from their blankets on the grass seats.  Getting old has a few perks, I guess. :)

That's it for thus far in July.  Stay tuned for news about the new baby in next month's blog.
