March wasn't too exciting at our house, so I never got around to blogging about it. Here's a look at both March and April at the Highland Riries.
March began with me going to our semi-annual quilt retreat in Springdale with my quilting friends. It was a great few days spent sewing and enjoying the company of my friends. We also got a few inches of snow one day, which is pretty rare in Springdale.
Finished this pretty quilt top :)
We also had some major car crashes in March. Devin was driving home on the freeway from Pocatello, Idaho when he got distracted reaching into the back seat to find something and drifted on to the rumble strip on the left side of the road, which surprised him and he overcorrected to the right, which caused his car to spin 180 degrees as it crossed to the other side of the freeway and then flipped on to the side of his car on the shoulder of the right side of the freeway where it bounced a couple of times before coming to a stop. His car was totaled, but we are so very grateful that he was able to unbuckle his seatbelt, hoist himself out of the passenger side of the car and walk away with only a bruise from his seatbelt. But RIP Gwen, who has been a good car for our family for 14 years.
My twin 7 year old nieces (my sister Becki's stepdaughters), Alice and Roxy, were involved in a very serious car accident on the freeway in Lehi at the beginning of March. Roxy suffered minor injuries and was in the hospital for 3 days before going home. Alice didn't have a pulse at the accident scene and was revived by medical personnel who just happened to be on the freeway at the time of the accident and were there offering assistance in seconds. Alice was life flighted to Primary Children's hospital where she underwent major abdominal surgery as well as brain surgery and then spent 8 days in the PICU in a medically induced coma. She then spent another 10 days in the hospital as she slowly began to recover and was slowly weaned off of the medications she had been on. Miraculously, she has since made a complete recovery and has graduated from all of the out patient therapies she was going to when she was released from the hospital. Here are a few pics of her through her hospitalization and recovery:
Alice and Roxy had their 8th birthday while Alice was still in the hospital, so Becki's oldest, Bella, and I put together a birthday party for Roxy and then we face timed Becki when we sang Happy Birthday so Alice could see everyone, too.
The day Alice came home from the hospital was a happy happy day for Becki and her family!! We are so grateful she has made such a miraculous recovery.
We visited a couple of temples and excitedly anticipate the time when we will be able to go inside again:
Autumn, Bryce and I drove to Arizona for Autumn's spring break in early April. Kim and Rob were awesome hosts and we loved spending time with them and enjoying the gorgeous weather in Scottsdale. Bryce brought his brand new mountain bike and Rob put him through his paces on daily mountain biking rides, which Bryce loved. We also enjoyed driving through Sedona, hiking around the desert, visiting old town Scottsdale, going horseback riding and playing at Top Golf. It was a pretty perfect week!

Back in chilly Utah, Bryce and I went to the tulip festival on a cold and rainy morning. It was still so beautiful and we had a great time together.
Even though Devin officially graduated from BYU in December, we took his graduation pictures at BYU in April. ;) We are so proud of him and his hard work to earn a college degree.

At the end of April, Bryce and I took a short trip to New Orleans for a day before heading to Gulf Shores, Alabama for my sister Liz's beach wedding. We enjoyed learning about New Orleans on a walking tour and exploring the French quarter and enjoying some really good food. :)

We then had an amazing couple of days in Gulf Shores, Alabama. We had never been to this part of the country before and it is just beautiful!! Soft white sand beaches that go on for miles and miles. We had a condo right on the beach and it was so fun! There was a 100% chance of rain in Gulf Shores on the day of Liz and James' wedding, and although it was windy that day, not a drop of rain fell. We appreciated the tiny miracle and very much loved being able to be there with lots of family for their beautiful wedding on the beach.
That's it for March and April. May will be pretty exciting with all of Autumn's end of high school festivities. Tune in next month to read all about it. :)
