September 2016

Our September started with a bang - literally. Seth wrecked the Suburban when he changed lanes without looking properly. The damage was pretty bad, but luckily not bad enough to total it and we were able to get it fixed. Seth was shaken up but not hurt (for which we are very thankful), and says he has learned the importance of not switching lanes without checking. I’m still not sure how that lesson escaped him though driver’s ed and hours and hours of practice driving before he got his license, but we are glad he is learning. :) And as my dad likes to say, “You can have kids or you can have stuff” - this was a good reminder of that. :)

We also attended a lot of cross country races this month cheering Seth on as he ran. Unfortunately, he’s not loving cross country as much as he did last year, but he’s sticking with it anyway and only complains every other day about practice. :) We love watching the races and cheering him on.

Seth fell on some gravel during one of his races but jumped back up and finished the race in good time.

On top of all of her regular dance practices, Autumn learned a duo for dance that she will be competing with her good friend, Brighton. It’s a contemporary jazz dance and she loves it. She also is working to choreograph a dance for her school dance team and is having so much fun being on the creating side of dance. Each girl on her team is choregraphing a dance as part of their class and then the teacher will choose which dances will be learned and performed by the team.

I am heading up the choir robes again this year and spent a couple of weeks at the school getting all of the choir students (more than 250 of them) sized and assigned robes for the year. The high school choirs also performed their annual Patriot’s Day concert in commemoration of the attacks on September 11. This is always one of my favorite concerts of the year and it always makes me feel proud to be an American and celebrate all this country represents.

Bryce and I took a picnic up the canyon by our house for lunch one day - I love where we live, especially this time of year!

We have a wild turkey that has been running all over our neighborhood for the past several months. Sasha loves to chase him around, though Frankie is terrified of him. We often hear him “gobbling” outside our windows.

Seth went to Homecoming with his friend, Olivia. They had a great time and Seth really enjoyed his first school dance date. He and Olivia and their double dates, Hayden and Sabrina came over to our house after the dance for waffles. We had fun feeding them and hearing about the dance.

Just a couple of days later, Seth was invited to go to Sadies with his friend, Grace. He’s looking forward to that dance later this month.

Bryce took his birthday off of work and he and I had a fun day together. One of the things we did was go to the new “Light of the World” garden at the Thanksgiving Point Gardens. It is a really unique garden filled with larger than life sized statues depicting scenes from the life of Christ. After walking through the garden that takes you chronologically through Christ’s ministry, there is a small dirt path that leads to a grove of trees where there is a statue depiction of the First Vision. It really is beautiful and worth a trip if you are ever in our neck of the woods - I’ve never seen anything like it.

That’s our September - see you next month!
