December 2015

December was filled with lots of excitement around here - some of it expected, and some of it not so much. Here’s a look:

First, an update on Neck-Bob. After waiting for more than a week for the culture results, we found out that nothing grew in the culture. So no bacteria at all. The doctor decided that the 5 rounds of antibiotics had killed all of the bacteria and all that was left was sterile pus. So Neck-Bob was drained in his office (not so fun for Autumn, but she was tough as nails) and now we wait for what is left of Neck-Bob to fade away and get absorbed by Autumn’s body. The swelling has gone down and it now just looks like a really big bruise on her neck that she can move around with her fingers - it’s kinda gross. But no more infection and no more fever - yay!

We got all of our decorations up for Christmas - love this time of year!!

My niece, Kait Caldwell was sealed to Andy Taylor in the Logan temple. My sister Kim and sister-in-law Mia both came for the ceremony and we spent a few fun days together. We all went to Temple Square to see the lights together with some of the rest of my family who was also in town for the wedding.

Bryce and I were unfortunately involved in a 3 car accident while driving our newest car. We were stopped at a red light and there was a suburban stopped behind us. A pick-up truck slammed into the suburban, which slammed into us. We are very fortunate the suburban (which was completely totaled by the impact) was there to take most of the impact, and we were both just a little sore from whiplash for a few days. We are still waiting for the parts needed to repair our car to arrive at the body shop so we can get it fixed - fun car repairs. But it could be so much worse.

Autumn had her jr high dance class concert and Seth had a choir concert to help us get in the Christmas spirit.

We had an extra Christmas dinner on December 16 so Megan could eat all of the yummy foods before her second jaw surgery on December 17. She spent the rest of the month recovering and is doing great! This recovery hasn’t been nearly as hard as the first surgery (she only had her upper jaw broken and repositiioned this time instead of both jaws like last time), and aside from hating being on a liquids only, no chewing diet, she is back to feeling good now. The surgery shortened her upper jaw just enough to make it so her lips close easily, so it’s a success and she is done with jaw surgery! :)

Morning of surgery, ready to go and cheerful as ever.

Evening of surgery day. Her face got even more swollen over the next couple of days before finally getting better.

We made Seth and Autumn’s Christmas by adopting a cat. We took the kids to the humane society and let them play with all of the cats there until they found the perfect one with just the sweet loving temperament they wanted. Our new cat is named Frankie and he is so sweet and friendly. It took Sasha aobout a week to give up the fight and accept that the cat is staying and they now tolerate each other. Not sure they will ever like each other, but we’ll take toleration.

We had a fun Christmas Eve party at our house with my family with the traditional dinner, gift exchange and acting out the nativity. The cousins are all growing up so it’s not as easy to persuade them to join in the nativity, but we make due.

Christmas morning was perfect. It was so much fun to have all of our kids together for the first time in 3 years and we all loved the day. We got several inches of new white snow on Christmas Eve night, so it was pretty much the perfect white christmas. It has been so much fun having everyone home for a couple of weeks over the break and to not have the stress of school and homework. We love Christmas break!

Seth’s new cat pj’s - he’s a bit of a cat fan. ;)

Hope you are all doing well and that 2016 is very good to you all. :)
