June 2013

June was a crazy, fun, busy month at our house!  We started the month with our long-awaited 2 week trip to Hawaii.  Bryce and I flew to Maui on June 1 where we enjoyed 6 days all by ourselves while Megan took care of her younger siblings at home.  On Maui, we enjoyed…

snorkeling…

On June 6, Megan, Devin, Seth and Autumn all flew to Kauai where we met them for another 10 days in paradise.  We rented a beautiful house on the north shore of Kauai in the little town of Ha’ena and had the best time together!!  Some of our favorite things we did were…

ziplining through the forests on the south side of the island…

snorkeling and playing on the beach, especially Tunnels beach, Ke’e beach and Hanalei Bay…

hiking 8 very strenuous miles on the Na Pali coast to reach a beautiful waterfall.  It was a really hard hike and pretty hot that day, but we were all glad we made the trip – we got to see some amazing scenery along the way…

taking a helicopter tour of the island.  We planned this as a surprise to the kids (which it was) and it is definitely the way to see Kauai!!  We saw some amazingly beautiful things and really enjoyed our tour…

Our helicopter pilot just happened to be LDS, and when he found out we hadn’t been surfing yet on our trip, he offered to bring his family and some boards up to Hanalei Bay a couple of days later and teach us all how to surf.  We had a great morning with Vince and his family and all had fun attempting surfing.  Seth was the most successful!

just enjoying time together for the last time in a while as Megan heads to Houston soon.  Precious family time!!

After we sadly returned back to reality, we quickly got ready for our next adventures!  3 days after arriving home, Bryce and Seth embarked on an 18 mile backpacking trip to get ready for their 50 mile trek coming up in July.

While they were hiking through the mountains, I was running through them.  I ran my first Ragnar Relay – 198 miles from Logan to Park City.  I ran 17.2 miles over 3 legs during a 34 hour time period.  Though it was tough, it was way more fun than I thought it would be and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect.  Good times!!

Autumn was asked by one of the directors of her dance studio to be in her first ever commercial.  She had to film all day and was pretty tired when she got done, but she enjoyed the experience.  :)

Devin spent the last week of June with the Teachers quorum on their high adventure in Moab – biking, hiking and white water rafting.  He had a great time and was the only boy to not come home completely sunburned.  Must have been his base tan from Hawaii. :)

Megan celebrated her 19th birthday on June 24.  She wanted to go through the SLC temple before leaving on her mission, so Bryce and I went with her and we all enjoyed that.

She gave her farewell talk on June 30.  She did an awesome job on her talk, choosing to speak on trusting in the Lord, and is going to be a powerful missionary in Houston!  We are so excited for her, but of course we will miss her like crazy when she enters the mission field this Wednesday.  But we’ll talk about that next month…

How did you fit all of that in one month? I loved visiting with Megan and hearing about your trip and all the other amazing things that you are all doing. Megan is going to be an amazing missionary. I can't wait to read her letters. I hope you plan to pass them on.
