November 2024

This month was a little crazy!! I got a call from Megan on the afternoon of November 6 telling me that she had developed preeclampsia and her doctor wanted to induce labor ASAP, 3 weeks before her due date. Since she was a week past due when she had Evan, we all assumed that she would at least make it to her due date, so none of us were quite prepared. I packed as quickly as I could and drove late that evening to Boise. Megan and Mitch went to the hospital the next morning while I stayed at the house with Evan. He and I spent the day cleaning the house, doing some grocery shopping and visiting the neighborhood park.

After an uncomplicated labor, Logan Mitchell Patrick was born just after 6 pm. He weighed 7 lbs 8 oz and is absolutely perfect.  Evan and I went to the hospital the next morning to meet his new little brother. Evan is so sweet with Logan and treats him very gently. Megan and Mitch spent a couple more days at the hospital (Megan's preeclampsia didn't resolve itself right away, so they stayed in the hospital a little longer trying to get that resolved). We were so excited to welcome them home!

The next few weeks were a whirlwind of taking care of Evan (who became so attached to me that he wouldn't even let me go to the bathroom without him :)) and helping out however else I could while Megan battled high blood pressure woes and Logan got settled in at home. He is a super mellow, sweet newborn!

One of Evan's favorite things to do while I was there was to walk to a small park close to his house and play in the fall leaves by running down the hills that were covered in the leaves. We also raked up bags and bags of leaves in the backyard and he loved playing in those as well.

About a week before Thanksgiving, Bryce came to Boise to meet his new grandson, play with Evan and spend time helping with some home projects including painting two rooms, replacing a pedestal sink with a new vanity and replacing their garbage disposal. It was so good to have him there!!

We did some Christmas-y things like setting up Christmas decorations, going to a winter festival in downtown Boise, visiting Santa and visiting the Giving Machines set up in Boise, where Evan was so excited to get a goat, which he talked about for days afterwards. :)

Autumn and Teddy came to Boise a couple of days before Thanksgiving so Autumn could meet her newborn nephew (which she missed with Evan since she was on her mission) and spend time with Evan. We went to see the Christmas lights at the Scentsy campus together. Autumn, Teddy and I also went to visit Autumn's mission president and his wife since they live in Boise. That was a really cool experience. They have had such a tremendous impact on Autumn and I am so grateful for them!!

We spent Thanksgiving Day with my sister Kathi and her husband Rod along with 2 of their adult children and their families. We had so much fun!! And ate so much yummy food and I didn't take a single picture!!

The day after Thanksgiving and after I had spent nearly the entire month of November in Idaho, we drove back home. It was hard to say goodbye to my sweet grandsons, but they will be coming to Utah soon for Christmas and for Mitch to have another surgery on his right arm, hoping to get some relief from his constant pain. We are praying for miracles.
