August 2021

We started August with our annual trip to the Oregon coast.  We had to take 2 cars this year because we had Devin, Seth and Autumn and each of their significant others coming with us. :) This time we left early on a Sunday morning so we could get to Boise in time to go to church with Megan and Mitch and then we enjoyed the rest of the day with them.  We loved spending time with them!!

We started early the next morning and made it out to Grandma Ririe's house, picked her up and drove out to the coast.  Here's a look at some of the things we did:

We went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium:

We played lots of games together:

We bought a couple of kites and flew them on the beach (of course the weather cooperated with lots of wind).  All of the kids especially loved flying the two string stunt kite.

We visited Tillamook and ate delicious ice cream.  We also visited Munson falls and Pacific city on the way back:

We explored the tide pools and had lots of fun searching for agates:

And of course, we got taffy from our favorite taffy shop. Twice. And ate it all.

We also spent a day in Portland at Saturday's market and Powell's bookstore for all of us, a record shop for Seth, Delaney, Levi and Devin and the Nike store and Salt n Straw ice cream for Autumn, Teddy and I while Bryce helped grandma with some projects in her yard.  And Tami and Jeff had us over for a delicious dinner. Such a great trip!

Things did get a little crowded on the drive home.  We all drove to Megan and Mitch's and enjoyed a lovely meal with them before Devin and Levi took one car and headed to Pocatello for a visit with Levi's family and Bryce, Seth, Delaney, Teddy and I crammed in to the other car.

Autumn stayed behind at Megan's house where she met up with her friends.  They stayed the night with Megan and Mitch before driving back to the beach for a week long trip with her best friends.  Autumn's friends LOVED the beach house and being at the coast.  They ended up staying a couple of days longer than they had planned because they were having so much fun. It also didn't hurt that the weather was phenomenal.  Here are a few pics of their fun:

We had a bit of a surprise this month when Devin and Levi decided to not wait until December to get married and decided instead to get married at the county courthouse in Logan on the day that they were moving in to their apartment there.  It was super last minute, so only Levi's mom, Carolee and I were able to attend, but they didn't really care since they are still having their wedding celebration/vow exchange in December. So after a 60 second (I'm not kidding) ceremony, Devin and Levi are married. :) Carolee and I helped them move their stuff into their apartment and then celebrated with lunch at a mexican restaurant in Logan.  Levi will start his masters program in Mathmatics next week, and Devin will be working until Levi finishes his masters degree and then Devin will get his masters in Medical Lab sciences.  We love them both!

Autumn spent all summer attending missionary farewells for her friends.  We both went to her friend Jonah Heimuli's farewell. Autumn has been friends with him since birth since his mom and I are very good friends.  It has been fun to see them grow up together and remain friends through it all.  Jonah gave a really amazing talk about faith in Christ. He is going to be a powerful missionary in Mozambique.

Megan finally had her final certification for speech language pathology come through, so she started applying for jobs in Boise area. In 2 days, she had 3 interviews and 3 job offers!  She weighed her options (and prayed about them) and ultimately decided to accept a job working at a small private practice clinic that focuses on working with under privileged children.  She is so excited to start working now that her Idaho license has come through.

On our 29th wedding anniversary, Bryce and I helped Autumn move to her apartment in Provo.  She has a cute apartment (by Provo standards anyway :)) and wonderful roommates that she already loves. After helping her move her stuff in, we drove to UVU and helped her navigate where each of her classes are located. I have to admit that I was really impressed with the UVU campus!  Autumn started classes this week and is so far loving her classes, although she's not loving how much homework she has. :)

She sent me these pics on her first day of school:

Delaney also started back to school at the U and Seth will start back at BYU next week.  The two of them took a quick weekend trip to Las Vegas and California so Seth could help a man he taught on his mission who had fallen on hard times. Seth helped him and also helped him connect with the Bishop in his new area. They also got to spend some time with friends in Vegas.

I celebrated my birthday with breakfast with friends, a relaxing day doing anything I wanted :), and dinner with Bryce at Ruth's Christ steakhouse - it was a pretty perfect day.

Autumn had a farewell dinner with her best high school friends before they all go off to college.  Autumn is rooming with her friend Macie who is going to BYU, Whitney will also be at BYU living in the dorms, Jacee and Hannah are off to BYU-Hawaii and Emmy (not in the pic) is going to BYU-Idaho.  These girls have been the best friends a girl could ask for and they are all going to do great things!

You might have noticed in that last pic that Autumn decided to lose her blonde hair at the end of this month. It's quite a change since she has been blonde since 7th grade, but we all love her new look and it will be easier to maintain since it's her natural color.

Bryce and I enjoyed so much going back to the temple!

That's it for August. :)
