August 2020

We had a scorching August here in Utah (hottest on record), but we did find some fun things to do and were able to get away from the heat for a bit.  Here is a look at our month:

Megan started her first salaried job as a college graduate at the beginning of the month.  She is working at a middle school in Cache county school district as a speech language pathologist.  August was filled with administrative stuff for her and getting her classroom set up.  The students returned to school in person at the end of August and she is busy getting things ready for when she will start pulling the kids in for speech therapy sessions starting after Labor day.  So far, she is enjoying the work. :)  Mitch finished his internship this month and will be returning for his last semester of his Masters program in Computer Engineering this week.

Bryce, Seth, Autumn and I took a trip to Yellowstone in the middle of the month.  Devin wasn't able to get time off of work, which was a bummer.  Mitch and Megan came and joined us on Friday evening and spent Saturday exploring the park with us.  We had a great time seeing the beauty of this amazing part of the world.  We hiked and drove and enjoyed the much cooler temperatures and beautiful weather for a few days.

Autumn and Seth had fun making picture taking an adventure...

We love them!! :):)

Autumn had her weeklong Dance Camp for the Performing Dance Company at Lone Peak High school.  She has been dancing on this team all through high school and LOVES it!!  She was chosen to be a team officer this year and is enjoying that as well.  Here are a few pics of her and her dance team:

Bryce and I very happily returned to live theater when we went to "Mary Poppins" at Hale Center Theater. We did have to wear masks the entire show, but it was really nice to be able to see a live show again. We've missed it.

Autumn returned to school (in person - hooray!!) on August 18.  Her Senior year definitely isn't anything like what we expected it to be before Covid-19 hit, but she is happy to be in person classes with real teachers and with her friends.  Hoping it lasts...

Bryce and I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary by taking an amazing hike in Provo Canyon called Lost Creek falls.  It was quite the adventure, and the scenery at the end made it all so worth it.

We also went out for a nice dinner that evening before heading to the high school to watch Autumn and her team perform at halftime of the football game.  We couldn't go to the game because the stadium can only have 25% of capacity and those tickets went mostly to parents and friends of the football players and cheerleaders, but they did let the parents of dancers on to the field for the halftime show and we loved watching Autumn and her team kill it with their hip hop dance. Autumn just LOVES to perform and I hope she gets lots of chances during her last year of dance.

We had an adventure moving Devin and Seth to Provo as they get ready to start their classes at BYU. Devin had gotten the oil changed on his car the day before and the oil change people either didn't put the radiator cap back on or didn't do it securely, because as Devin was getting off the freeway, the car shut down and every warning light came on.  Bryce, who was helping Autumn and her dance team at their car wash fundraiser, drove the truck down to Provo and towed the car to the nearest Jiffy Lube where they fixed the problem and replaced the cap.  Luckily no major damage was done and Bryce went back to the car wash while I helped the boys get their stuff unloaded to their apartments in Provo.  Devin and Seth are neighbors, but not sharing the same apartment. It's a good arrangement and they are both enjoying being in Provo and look forward to starting classes this week.

That's it for our August.  Hopefully everyone will still be in school when we update the blog next month. :)
