January 2014

January was a busy, cold, snowy month around our house – take a look:

Devin started another season of fencing tournaments and has improved a lot since last year.  His technique is good and now he is working on becoming more aggressive as a fencer.  It’s fun to watch his bouts – fencing is definitely a game of strategy!

Seth is playing another year of basketball and having fun with that.  He is fun to watch because even though he is smaller than most of the kids his age, he is fast and loves to get in the face of the person he is defending.

Autumn had her first dance competition of the new season and competed her solo for the first time, along with competing 3 dances with her team and her jazz trio with Halle and Nyah again (which won 1st place in the advanced trio division).  Autumn did awesome on her solo, especially since she was competing in the advanced category for the first time and was competing against girls who are 2 years older than her.  She won high gold honors and 2nd place in her category.  Both she and her coach were thrilled and she looks forward to taking the judges comments and using them to get even better.  Autumn also danced at a benefit concert, a wrestling match halftime, and at a Jr. High dance competition.  She is busy dancing and loves it!

Seth and Bryce went to the Scout’s Klondike campout and had fun camping in the cold snowy weather.  Seth is going to be sad when he moves to the Teachers Quorum in May and won’t be going on monthly campouts anymore.

We went to a concert for BYU’s Vocal Point and all loved it!  It was fun and entertaining and awesome music.  We will definitely have to go again when Megan is home again – she would love it!!

Devin and I were both sworn in as members of the Highland City Youth Council.  I somehow volunteered myself to be the assistant adult advisor to the council and we are both looking forward to a really great year serving together.

The boys and Bryce took in a Jazz game and really enjoyed watching the Jazz win a game (especially since the Jazz’s wins are a little few and far between this year).

We continue to make some changes to our house.  We replaced our front door, front entry way chandelier, repainted the entry way and the kitchen and are in the process of getting new kitchen cabinets. We are now on the 3rd week of what was supposed to be a 3 day project and really look forward to it being done so we can move our kitchen stuff back out of our family room and into the kitchen again.  We just keep reminding ourselves that we are a work in progress and it will all be worth it in the end.

Devin went to Preference (girls choice formal) with his good friend Shae and they had a blast together.  His group were all good friends of his, so it made the date even more fun.

Megan was transferred for the first time this month and is really enjoying her new area, Memorial Springs, and her new companion, Sister Goodrich!  She is biking and walking and enjoying that as well.  We love hearing from her every week and staying up on her adventures as a missionary.  Love her!!  The picture at the bottom is just half of the missionaries in her mission around Christmastime.

Hope you all are staying warm and having a great winter!!

Love what you've done in the kitchen, I say just leave it as it is, very bohemian :)

Congratz to the kids and their awesome accomplishments.
